Welcome to ABATE of California

ABATE of California is a Motorcycle Rights Organization (MRO) dedicated to preserving individual freedom and promoting safety. We fully support rider training, safety and educational programs. Our members also raise funds for the less fortunate, through charity runs and benefits. We encourage our members to become active in their local communities.

ABATE works to protect the rights of all motorcyclists through direct involvement in the political process. Part of our job is to be a legislative watchdog for you. ABATE has a full time lobbyist in Sacramento keeping track of legislative bills that affect or are of interest to motorcyclists. You, as an individual, can help in the ongoing struggle against anti-motorcycle legislation both here in California and across the United States by becoming an ABATE member.

ABATE is non-partisan and welcomes all riders, on-road and off-road. We give those with a strong interest in motorcycling to unite and become part of one of California's strongest motorcycle rights organizations. ABATE feels that all of us, lifestyle rider to off-road fan are brothers and sisters with a common interest -- riding free.

Call to Action - Motorcyclist Advisory Council

Call to action from the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF)

MRF asking you to contact your Member of Congress and Senators concerning the reestablished Motorcyclist Advisory Council (MAC). As you know, the MAC is the only formalized dialogue between the motorcycle community and DoT officials. The purpose of the “MAC” is to share rider experience with the Federal Highway Administration specifically focusing on areas like roadway deigns and construction, barriers and other emerging issues like the effects of ITS and autonomous vehicles on motorcyclists across the nation.

On Monday of this week, the Federal Highway Administration announced that they were moving forward with the Motorcyclist Advisory Council (MAC) and they were calling for nominations to serve on the Council. HOWEVER, if you look at the notice they are only calling for ONE of the TEN spots to be served by an actual motorcyclist. This is completely unacceptable. How can the government established a Council that’s supposed to be a dialogue between the motorcycle community and the federal authorities, but only have 1 motorcyclist represented? This is unfair, incredibly unbalanced and is truly contrary to the mission of the Council itself.

As such, we are asking you to contact your Member of Congress and Senators to intervene by contacting the Federal Highway Administration. Please visit the link below to submit a prewritten letter that will go directly to your elected officials. We must make our voices heard on this issue!

CMSP on Lane Guidelines - Update

3/21/2017 After a 3 Hour Meeting today the Motorcycle Rider Groups and Dealers united to Vote on Sending a Minimum of 15 MPH & 50 MPH on the Higher end to the CHP Commissioner. We went through word by word Guidelines and Educational Materials produced by CHP and these will be finalized/mailed a week before our next meeting in April to the Advisory Committee Members for our review and vote. CHP has told the MRSPvgroup that while guidelines are being developed “as long as Riders in CA Lane Split at a Safe and Prudent Speed, they will not be cited". James Lombardo Sr. Lobbyist for ABATE of CA is a Member of the Advisory Committee and will be Voting on this issue when they are presented.

3/16/2017 The CMSP has received approval to meet and start developing new lane splitting guidelines - no Date for the Meeting has been set. The new guidelines are to be developed by a working group comprised of CMSP Advisory Committee members, which we are apart of. We will keep you updated as we met, discuss and debate the proposals.

3/21/2017  The CMSP Yellow/Orange Hi-Vis vests SubCommittee Meeting has been pushed back until after June. Another Issue that was brought up is Hi-Visibility Yellow/Orange Vest for Riders. A sub-committee was formed to discuss the idea, your Lobbyist is a Voting member of this Committee as well and it needs to have full CMSP Committee Approval before the CHP could Proceed."

2016-2017 National Motorcycle Profiling Survey - Take the Survey!

Recently, the National Motorcycle Profiling Survey 2015-2016 concluded and the results definitively demonstrate that motorcycle profiling is an epidemic in America. Many motorcyclists in America have been targeted based on appearance, not behavior.

Please take the time to take the 2016-2017 National Motorcycle Profiling Survey. Note: NO PERSONAL DATA IS REQUIRED! YOUR PRIVACY AND ANONYMITY ARE IMPORTANT AND RESPECTED.
